For so many good reasons, the new Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro is the centre of attention in the wireless earbuds arena making it our top choice for the most reliable in-ear noise-cancelling Bluetooth earphones this year. Numerous upgrades are introduced in the latest model while several proprietary features made the previous Galaxy Buds releases a global success. What’s new? 24-bit HiFi Sound, Bluetooth 5.3, upgraded active noise cancellation (ANC), and a pressure-reducing design. What’s restored? 3D sound, Bixby voice activation, customisable sound settings, reverse wireless charging and lots of smart controls. The result: Samsung’s best true wireless model to date, and hence the title.
One of the biggest jumps for the new Buds2 Pro is the sleek and comfier earbud constructions. Samsung claims that the design is 15% smaller compared to the previous edition and comes with an expanded windshield, better-angled sound port and a tight seal tip around the canal making the earbuds more comfortable to wear for long hours. The IPX7- waterproofing rate makes the device sweat resistant and can be submerged in the water temporarily. The all-plastic casing is rubberised meaning it’s anti-fingerprint and the size is compact enough to fit in the pockets of your trousers, jeans or even compression tights.
In this edition, Samsung introduces a bigger control panel on the earbud for easier music or other services navigations like answering phone calls and replying to messages or voice commands. If your hands are full, the controls can also be done via voice activation and it works for both Siri and Google Assistant.
Moving on to the main event, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro sound system is specially tuned by Samsung-owned audio specialist AKG for an immersive sound experience, and dare we say it’s one of the best sounds we have ever heard from true-wireless earphones. We put on the new hit by Taylor Swift, Lavender Haze, and every layer of the voice overlaps in the intro came out in detail. We then changed the setting from normal mode to 360 audio and it was a truly game-changing audio experience. The boosting sound of the bass guitar, the thumping of the drum and the rich tone of the piano came from different directions and intelligently synchronised that made us feel like we were in the studio together for the recording session. The joy didn’t stop there, we were put into a soundproof bubble as soon as the ANC mode was activated and thanks to the three mics embedded within each dome all external sounds were minimised with only a tiny clutch left for us to be aware of the surroundings.
Battery-wise, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro lasts up to 5 hours with ANC on while without ANC, the longevity extends to 8 hours. Adding to that, the device is also equipped with Samsung’s quick charging technology that generates 1 hour of playtime with every 5-minute of charging, and up to 2.5 hours of playtime for a 10-mite charge. Also, a plus point to Galaxy users as the device can be charged by placing it on the back of a compatible Galaxy smartphone via Wireless PowerShare.
A secure fit and high-quality sound come together in these sleek little earbuds and are priced at RM899 only. These are definitely a few of the best investments to make this year and since the gifting season is just around the corner, they make a perfect gift for yourself or your loved ones.
