Here’s how you can help Malaysian flood victims

Deemed the rainfall once in 100 years by secretary-general Datuk Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, the torrential rainfall has affected Peninsular Malaysia severely especially the west coast, which is a rare phenomenon for the region. Sweeping eight states and federal territories, the floods have left thousands stranded and caused more than 41,000 people to be evacuated to relief shelters. In addition, 10 people have been reported missing after having been believed to be washed away by floods in Pahang.

According to the secretary-general, the natural disaster happened due to monsoon flow factors and a low pressure weather system that achieved the level of a tropical depression that formed in the South China Sea. The 24-hour downpour was reported to exceed the average rainfall for a month.
