Everything is at a standstill. All of our lives have been upended but we’re doing the right thing by self-isolating ourselves, coping as best we can. Many of us are staying in touch (virtually) with our family and friends because it’s vital for our mental well-being. As you do so, here are four uncomplicated cocktail recipes – which require five ingredients or less – that you can easily whip up to elevate the precious time.

Gin Gin Mule

This is long, delectably cooling cocktail whose floral notes of the Hendrick’s Gin blend with the tingling sensations of ginger and green mint. It’s an absolute classic!

45ml Hendrick’s Gin

15ml Lime Juice

20ml Sugar syrup (mix water and sugar)

Mint leaves

Ginger beer

How to make:

Muddle mint to release oils in your glass. Pour Hendrick’s Gin, lime juice and simple syrup. Add ginger beer, stir and garnish with mint leaves for an uplifting aftertaste.

Martell Sour

This style of cocktail comes together quickly and can be made with a variety of ingredients. The sweet and sour combination of flavours allows your favourite Martell cognac to steal the show.

1 part lime or lemon juice

1 part sugar syrup (mix water and sugar)

2 parts of your choice of Martell cognac

Lime or lemon peel

Ice cubes

How to make:

Choose your favourite Martell cognac and combine it with lime or lemon juice, the sugar syrup and ice in a shaker. Shake and strain it into a glass. Don’t have a shaker? Use a stainless steel water bottle, protein shaker, coffee flask, mug with cover, or mason jar!
