Zenith’s modern day revival of the emblematic A384 answers the question of what the sun-kissed vintage reference from 1969 would look like today. Tropical brown tones from black pigment degradation due to prolonged ultraviolet exposure contrast against the white lacquered dial. What begins as a manufacturing imperfection often evolves into one of vintage watchmaking’s most coveted characteristics — a dial transformed into rich shades of brown, carrying a patina unique to its journey.

The dial takes centre stage. Set against a crisp white lacquered backdrop, the chocolate-brown counters create a striking “chocolate panda” configuration that immediately recalls the rare tropical examples sought after by collectors. Matching brown tones extend to the tachymeter scale, while faceted indices and hands filled with “old radium” Super-LumiNova evoke the subtle ageing found on historic pieces. A vivid red chronograph seconds hand cuts through the warm palette, introducing a contemporary touch that prevents the watch from feeling like a mere reproduction.
Beyond aesthetics, the Revival remains remarkably faithful to its predecessor. The 37mm stainless steel case has been recreated directly from the original 1969 blueprints, preserving the sharp tonneau silhouette, pump pushers and distinctive mix of brushed and polished surfaces that defined the era. It is a reminder that some designs require little revision, only refinement.
At its heart beats the El Primero 400, the closest descendant of the legendary calibre that changed chronograph history. Operating at a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, the movement allows for timing precision to one-tenth of a second while delivering a 50-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement showcases ZENITH’s enduring commitment to technical excellence, complete with an openworked rotor shaped like the brand’s signature five-pointed star.
Completing the package is another piece of ZENITH history: the famed Gay Frères “ladder” bracelet. Lightweight, flexible and instantly recognisable, it remains one of the most distinctive bracelet designs of its era and reinforces the Revival collection’s commitment to authenticity without sacrificing modern-day comfort.
