Not long ago, Formula 1 was a sport you watched. Today, it is a sport you attend.
The racing remains the main attraction, but somewhere between Lewis Hamilton’s paddock arrivals, Ferrari’s expansion into fashion, Louis Vuitton trophy trunks and Gucci’s upcoming partnership with Alpine, the grid has become a surprisingly effective style moodboard. For every conversation about tyre compounds, there is another about tailoring, vintage chronographs or who arrived at the circuit wearing what before a wheel had even turned.
Part of that shift comes down to visibility. Drivers are no longer seen only behind a visor. Social media, luxury partnerships and even Hollywood have pushed Formula 1 further into the cultural mainstream, most recently through F1, the sport’s big-screen debut. Hamilton remains the obvious example. Yet Formula 1’s relationship with style is hardly new. Ayrton Senna’s effortless off-duty wardrobe and enduring cultural influence continue to inspire decades after his final race. Long before brands started treating the paddock like a front row, drivers were already shaping identities beyond the cockpit.

With the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco around the corner, there is perhaps no better time to acknowledge a simple reality: every team sells a different fantasy.
Ferrari trades in passion and perpetual optimism. Mercedes offers precision. Aston Martin values tradition. McLaren has become the cool kid on the grid. Even the teams themselves are beginning to look less like racing organisations and more like lifestyle brands with exceptionally fast company cars.
With Monaco race week approaching, Men’s Folio Malaysia assembles a Grand Prix outfit, one team at a time.
