Met Gala 2026: Fashion Is Art, But What Is Art to Us?

This year’s Met Gala was a walking exhibition in itself, exploring the intersection between the garment and body as an art form.

Bodies, bodies, bodies. Fashion’s biggest night has come to a close, with brands and celebrities embracing the natural form in their interpretations of this year’s Met Gala theme. Centred around the Costume Institute’s new exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled “Costume Art.”, the dress code invites the exploration of the dressed body not as a mere mannequin, but as an art form, giving designers and attendees a chance to showcase this sentiment.

Gracing the Met steps, luminaries from across industries arrived in looks that blurred the boundary between garment and body. From the trompe l’oeil paintings that treated the skin as a canvas to the reimagination of the human anatomy, it made the message of the exhibition clear: in which fashion does not just adorn the body, it is an artistic extension of it.

Men’s Folio Malaysia takes a look at the outfits that not only aligned with this year’s theme, but were worn in ways that felt alive, intentional, and deeply personal – because art can be a million things, what is important is what it means to you.
