The world of horology is no stranger to motorsports. In many ways, both worlds play out in tandem with each other. The chronograph exists to record fractions of a second, and motor racing is decided by them. That shared obsession with time and precision under pressure is exactly why watch brands keep returning to the paddock rather than, say, football pitches or basketball courts.

Richard Mille deserves credit as one of the pioneers of this modern wave of F1 collaboration. His partnership with Felipe Massa — which began in 2004 — was unusual for its time. Rather than simply putting a logo on a car, Mille built watches engineered to withstand the G-forces, vibration, and temperature swings of a cockpit, which Massa then wore during races to prove the point. It reframed the watch as a piece of performance engineering rather than a sponsorship trinket, which other manufacturers took note of.

That understanding of where watches stood in racing now runs through the industry. Each brand approaches motorsport differently. However, the underlying logic is consistent: a race car and a mechanical watch are both built from hundreds of precisely toleranced components, assembled to work in concert, and tested under conditions that leave no room for error.

For collectors, these collaborations also solve a narrative problem. A watch on its own can be difficult to place within a story; a watch tied to a specific car, driver or livery carries a ready-made context, a limited production run, and a moment in time it commemorates. The following five watches show how differently that idea can be executed.

H. MOSER & CIE STREAMLINER ALPINE DRIVERS AND MECHANICS PINK EDITIONS

Unveiled to mark the start of the 2026 Formula One season, this duo reworks H. Moser & Cie’s existing Streamliner Alpine models in pink to match BWT Alpine Formula One Team’s 2026 livery. The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Pink Edition is a flyback chronograph built on the skeletonised Calibre HMC 700, developed with Agenhor, offering a minimum 72-hour power reserve and pink Globolight indices against a fully open dial. The Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Pink Edition takes a more functional approach, built on the connected Calibre DI0 developed with Sequent, combining analogue hours and minutes with a digital display that shows race countdowns, upcoming race schedules, and team alerts, intended for daily use in the paddock rather than as a dress watch. Both models share a 12 ATM water resistance rating and integrated pink rubber straps with steel pin buckles engraved with the Moser logo, turning BWT Alpine Formula One Team’s identity into a watch meant for a racer — or even a racing fan.

TAG HEUER MONACO SPEED 12

Unveiled at the Formula One Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco 2026, the Monaco Speed 12 reinterprets TAG Heuer’s most avant-garde model through a jumping-hour complication built around 12 rotating pistons. Developed in collaboration with La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the watch runs on the Calibre TH84- 00, an adaptation of the patented Spin Time movement, in which one piston resets while the next rotates 90 degrees to reveal the current hour as the central minute hand completes its circuit. The 40mm case is Grade 5 titanium with four DLC-coated open-worked arches suspending the movement, paired with a black rubber strap featuring red hand-stitching. The watch is ultimately a redesign, turning a remarkable engine into a watch that moves just as precisely as its car counterpart does.

TUDOR BLACK BAY CHRONO “CARBON 26”

Tudor’s contribution for the 2026 season continues an annual tradition of producing a dedicated chronograph for each Formula One campaign. This year, it pays tribute to the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls car, the VCARB 03. The watch carries a 42mm case rendered in carbon fibre, including the fixed bezel and the strap end-links, a material prized for its weight-saving properties in a racing context. Power comes from the Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813, COSC-certified with a 70-hour power reserve, column-wheel construction and vertical clutch, derived from the Breitling Calibre B01. The domed “racing white” dial uses Tudor’s signature Snowflake hands and introduces a new hint of yellow, matching an accent found on the VCARB 03’s engine cowling that successfully reimagines the car into a watch suited for the tracks.

IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN PILOT’S WATCH CHRONOGRAPH 41 MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS FORMULA ONE™ TEAM

IWC Schaffhausen is set to mark the Singapore Grand Prix with its fourth official team watch for the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 introduces a deep, saturated purple dial inspired by Singapore’s national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, with the team’s signature PETRONAS green carried through the numerals, indices and luminescent hands. The 41mm case is Grade 5 titanium, while inside sits the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre, a column-wheel chronograph, a day-date display at three o’clock and a 46-hour power reserve. Finished with Geneva stripes and circular graining visible through the sapphire caseback — it perfectly integrates PETRONAS’ racing DNA within IWC’s eclectic ecosystem.

BREITLING NAVITIMER B01 CHRONOGRAPH 43 ASTON MARTIN ARAMCO FORMULA ONE™ TEAM

Marking Breitling’s return to Formula One and the beginning of its multi-year partnership with Aston Martin and the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, the team watch houses the Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01 with a 70-hour power reserve. A 43mm titanium case is used for the first time on a Navitimer, bearing a carbon-fibre dial finished in Aston Martin Racing Green with lime accents drawn from the team livery. The open sapphire crystal caseback reveals a matte-black tungsten rotor with PVD coating, engraved with the team logo alongside the phrases “Instruments for Drivers” and “One of 1959” — a callback to the year of Aston Martin’s Formula One debut.
