Luminox has always stuck by its values of robustness and utility, with its design DNA never once wavering since its founding in 1989. Throughout the decades, the Swiss brand has offered trustable timepieces to the likes of rescue operatives or professional divers.
One collection within Luminox’s extensive roster takes this practicality up a notch, and that is the Mil-Spec 3350 series which, like its name, adheres to Military Specification. These are standards required for developing military-grade equipment across the board, ranging from electronics to hardware, and the Luminox 3350 series covers these bases in the watch category.

Today, fans of this collection will get to enjoy a new look through the Mil-Spec 3359.SET model, which features a pop of colour on the dial through the orange accents and seconds hand. Other colour differences include white digits on the titanium bezel — versus black on its predecessor — and a white rubber strap.
But anyone who buys the Mil-Spec variety will have other priorities in mind, and that will unmistakably be the ability to endure harsh conditions. This is where the watch shines, starting with its Carbonox™+ build, which improves on the original compound material, offering more tensile strength and less water absorption. That does away with fears of bumps and scrapes. No more inhibition of using power tools with this watch on, either. Plus, it will perform well regardless of whether it is at altitude or underwater.

Another facet of the watch’s durability comes from its ETA F06.412 quartz movement, which features HeavyDrive and PreciDrive technologies. Features like PreciDrive, which offer thermo-compensation for fluctuating temperatures, help keep the watch’s deviation to under 10 seconds per year. That is amazingly accurate, even for quartz watches. On top of that, HeavyDrive bolsters the watch against impact through a counter-impulse that prevents the skipping of the hands.
Continuing down this path of practicality, we have the tritium tubes that Luminox is known for. It may seem like a tiny benefit for the everyday person, but legibility in the absence of light, especially for prolonged periods of darkness say, during night shifts or while exploring caves, is integral to the people who need it.

All of the design choices for this watch have been made with functionality as the main driver. In other words, Luminox knows its watches are made for rugged use, and does not compromise on this front. What that gives us is a watch like the Mil-Spec 3359.SET that could be present at a cocktail party, but will truly fulfil its potential in the most daring of adventures.
