Watches & Wonders 2026: The Bvlgari Ultra-Thin Icon in the Making

Bvlgari forgoes record-breaking ambitions in favour of refinement as they unveil a new icon in the making, the Octo Finissimo 37.

In 2014, Bvlgari’s pursuit of ultra-thin watchmaking became one of modern horology’s most dominating feats. Since its debut, the Octo Finissimo collection has amassed 10 world records and relentlessly challenged the limits of ultra-thin watchmaking. Across its various iterations, the collection features complications ranging from the tourbillon to the minute repeater to the chronograph. In 2017, Bvlgari introduced the time-only Octo Finissimo Automatic. Audacious, architectural and unmistakably Italian in spirit, the watch sharpens the collection’s identity amongst its complex counterparts and distils Bvlgari’s ultra-thin watchmaking ethos into its purest form.

At Watches & Wonders 2026, a new Octo Finissimo 37 emerges. It is not a replacement but a direct descendant of the time-only Octo Finissimo Automatic lineage. Bvlgari refined the existing blueprint further by reducing the original’s 40mm diameter to 37mm. The result is a shift from the extremes of record-breaking engineering to a nuanced expression of sprezzatura.

“The Octo Finissimo 37 marks a significant evolution for Bvlgari. It’s the watch of maturity. By reinterpreting the Octo Finissimo codes with this new dimension, we have created a timepiece that goes beyond technical prowess to fully embrace the contemporary art of living. It achieves a perfect balance between subtle elegance, absolute comfort on the wrist, and horological innovation that continues to push boundaries. This is a true object of desire, a timeless signature for those who refuse to compromise between style and substance,” explains Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of LVMH Watches and CEO of Bvlgari.

Much of what made the Octo Finissimo an icon, from its multi-faceted, architectural case and integrated bracelet construction to its ultra-svelte profile, remains. Three models are unveiled under this umbrella, including two in titanium and one in a precious 18-carat yellow gold version. Titanium has always been synonymous with the Octo Finissimo collection as a whole, and the former two pieces are faithful disciples, available with either a sandblasted or satin-polished finish. While both alloys share the same material composition, light interacts differently with each version. The soft shimmer of the satin-polished version emphasises the edges of the architectural case, while the matte sandblasted finish heightens contrast and depth. When fully assembled, the watch weighs a featherweight 65 grams, defying logic and comprehension when worn. Its yellow gold counterpart offers a more flamboyant take with its monochromatic dial and indices. Where its titanium siblings might lack in wrist presence, the yellow gold piece certainly makes up for it as light glistens and dances against its multi-faceted yellow gold case and bracelet.

“The Octo Finissimo 37 is, for us, a reimagined blank canvas. By reducing its diameter, we have created a space where creativity expresses itself in its purest forms. It’s the expression of continuous innovation where every detail is an opportunity to reimagine watchmaking,” explains Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Bvlgari’s Product Creation Executive Director.

At the heart of this miniaturisation feat is the new self-winding calibre BVF 100. The breakthrough development, which was three years in the making, is the culmination of extensive ultra-thin movement design and savoir-faire. With a thickness of 2.35mm, a diameter of 31mm, and a micro-rotor, the calibre delivers an impressive 72-hour power reserve. Finishing touches to the BVF 100, including new octagonal screws profiles, are comprehensive and meticulous.

Although the Octo Finissimo 37 marks the biggest dimension shift from its illustrious record-breaking big brothers in 12 years, to simply relegate it to their shadows is a disservice to Bvlgari’s efforts. With the same levels of audacity, ambition and modernity incorporated into the Octo Finissimo 37, it is blazing its own path to iconic status.
