There’s more to Glenn Martens than just his name. Even though he’s established himself as a household name in the industry, it was done not without his long, flourishing portfolio of being the creative helm behind three of the most iconic brands of the 21st Century — the humble beginnings of Y/Project, the creative revival of Diesel and the new head honcho of the legendary Maison Margiela. Now, theres a 4th addition to the lineup: his very own collaboration with retail giant H&M.

Now, many consumers are able to experience the essence of Glenn Martens’ designs through a much more affordable and accessible price point. A full collection that fuses womenswear, menswear, unisex pieces and accessories, it is one that distills Marten’s design archetypes into wearable and functional fashion.

“I see this collection as a big family of garments, all of which have multiple purposes and personalities: like people, they grow and change each day. I am always interested in the clothes that we really live in: and the idea of archetypes and wardrobe staples was the starting point for this very special and joyful project with H&M.”  says Martens himself.

This collection is all about blending the sensibilities of H&M and the radical design frameworks that Martens has used over his time at Y/Project. Key pieces from H&M and Martens’ respective archives have found their way into the looks — dramatic over-the-knee boots come paired with trompe l’oeil prints, come additional paired with denim manipulation of the most classic yet exaggerated proportions.

The campaign, which presents itself as a twist on family portraiture, sees a cast featuring legendary actors Joanna Lumley and Richard E. Grant, joined by a lineup of fresh new talents. Their inclusion reflects Martens’s affinity for British humour and the many UK-inspired elements woven throughout the collection.
