From Cities Of Ideas: Zenith DEFY Collection

At LVMH Watch Week 2026, Zenith brings fluidity to form, function and the familiar in the DEFY collection.

Static, unshaking, and concrete. Structure often comes with confined definitions and usually marks a sense of resolve. Yet, in a world where modernity hardly remains still, we find ourselves swaying in the contrasts, where material meets the abstract and permanence is pitted against motion. Within this vastness, Zenith joins the conversation with additions to its line of DEFY timepieces, each inhabiting a character that moves with the current, not against it. Rigidity through the lens of the manufacture comes with layers, and with a grasp on architectural sensibility, the latest members of the DEFY collection recognise that the grandest resolutions are found at the intersections between light and its eclipses with a smoothness that comes to a point’s meeting.

With nods to its predecessors, the DEFY line carries forward a robust resilience that speaks through fluid rhythm, familiar yet reconstrued. The DEFY Skyline Skeleton invites the eye inwards, to glance upon openworked forms amidst a dark ceramic exterior, unashamed in its exposure. Its constant 1/10th-of-a-second running indicator traces a steady pulse, like a beating heart, unrelenting amid metropolitan turbulence. Here, a warm glow echoes from the gold-toned calibre bridges, with an innate illumination that feels calm yet alive.

The DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton introduces a blushing kind of warmth into the dialogue. The brand’s signature hovers over a sapphire crystal as its inner forms, unconcealed, emerge from the case like a skyline bottled in miniature. Transparency is reframed as total presence, and clinical geometry speaks through the warmth of the rose-gold metal, almost blending into the warmth of one’s skin, where transition is rendered effortlessly and elegantly.

That same urban familiarity carries through to the DEFY Skyline Chronograph, though in a cooler hue, and is rendered intricately at every depth. Clarity becomes tactile, as the darkness of the chronograph’s rapid rotation through its sapphire case feels more like motion encapsulated rather than instructed, where time is more so observed than controlled. The engraved four-pointed star dial motif exudes precision, making rationality in the rush feel easy.

The icy DEFY Skyline 36 distils this steady language into a more intimate scale. Its refined silver-toned dial, alongside its compact proportions, offers a contained expression of the collection’s architectural codes, with the softness of hour markers and hands that glow at all times of day. Its calibre twinkles with a star-shaped rotor as this piece personifies adaptability with a gentle quirk.

The DEFY Revival A3643 completes the narrative, finding itself in a nostalgia that looks ahead. Reviving the historic 1969 model, the watch features a distinctive dial set with contrasting two-tier hour markers. The slightly angular case and integrated bracelet reflect its era while presenting a dynamic, foundational aesthetic where art meets engine.

These meticulous timepieces arrange a city of ideas, each distinctly individual yet bound by a shared momentum. Zenith reminds us that the future does not simply lie in the synonyms of innovation, but also in giving form to the silent forces that tug at the way we breathe, move, and measure.
