A modern man does not need to act in accordance with how the world perceives him, for the human mind constantly finds ways to simplify, reduce, and box his complexities into binary statements: “Is he handsome? Is he masculine? Is he a villain or a hero?”
Condensed to yeses and nos, 1s and 0s, nuances become difficult to distinguish with diminishing attention spans and the flattening of our experiences with each other — through mere pixels and glossy screens.
Archen Aydin to some, Joong to most — certain multitudes cannot be contained in just a simple fact sheet. Being Thai by nationality, but raised in Turkey, he embodies what it means to be a third-culture kid, possessing the sensitivity to articulate himself effectively as an actor, where he gets to tell stories that tug at heartstrings.
What matches his strong, piercing gaze is a voice that fans have found angelic in his fluent delivery of Thai, Turkish, Mandarin and English, and showcased JASP.ER’s captivating performances.
Just like the Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Metallic Musk he wears, there is an audacious magnetism that first pulls you in, with a tender heart revealed over time.
Rather than a charm that feels overly polished or manufactured towards the point of losing character, the raw sensuality Joong exudes can be attributed to the compelling earnestness he demonstrates from fan interactions to his on-screen chemistry with longtime collaborator, Dunk. Fans are constantly insatiable for their electric synergy together, beginning from Star and Sky to their upcoming project, Dare You to Death.
Joong’s artistry extends beyond his need to be perceived in front of the camera lens. Last year, he wrote and directed his very first short film, Pocong JD, which is based on a Malaysian and Indonesian paranormal entity. Signalling a new chapter in his creative career, the independent production — in all its limitations — was still a successful attempt in showcasing other facets of his talent in raw form, each on its way to being polished to brilliance.
