Last Thursday, Men’s Folio Malaysia celebrated its 28th Anniversary with FACETIME at Over and Above in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. The goal was straightforward: throw a rave that feels true to the people driving KL’s fashion and music scene right now. Even with heavy rain outside, the crowd showed up early, dressed for the theme, and ready to party. The club filled fast, with musicians, stylists, designers, and familiar creative faces blending into a room that felt instantly alive. Notable guests like Dayang Nurfaizah, Christinna Kuan, Angel of DOLLA, and Hael Husaini added to the mix, but the real spark still came from the crowd.
The music carried the night from the moment it started. DJs ADER2K, SMOOTHBRAINGIRLY, and DJ WCKD each pushed the room in their own direction, switching the pace just enough to keep the floor moving. Some even used the night to try sounds they do not always get to bring into their regular sets, which added a freshness that the crowd picked up instantly. Rappers DANNQRACK and EEMRUN kept the energy rising, and ASTRAL ANGELS dropped in with a shift that held the room’s attention. The combination of club-scene staples and newer names fit exactly with what FACETIME set out to do: bring different sides of KL’s creative community into one space and let things connect naturally. With Jim Beam fuelling the bar, the night moved with an ease that felt unforced and genuinely fun.
The Indie Sleaze dress code tied everything together. Leather, metallics, smudged eyeliner, vintage tees, and skinny jeans all showed up in their own interpretations. Some guests leaned into full mid-2000s nostalgia, while others twisted the theme with layered pieces, vintage finds, or intentionally messy styling. It created a room full of different looks that still made sense together alongside the lighting and the music. By the end of the night, FACETIME felt less like a standard anniversary event and more like a snapshot of where Men’s Folio Malaysia stands today. Loud, youthful, and a little chaotic in the best way. At 28 years in, the culture keeps moving, and we move with it.
