DJI has always been known for reinventing the use-cases for gimbals, ensuring they remain functionally direct and fun. The DJI OSMO Mobile 8 elevates how that happens when capturing everyday moments, doing away with shaky or awkward angles, or videos that aren’t cinematic enough.
The gimbal design feels instantly familiar, allowing us to focus on the task at hand, and letting the OSMO Mobile 8 do the stabilising. The lightweight foldable gimbal makes it incredibly intuitive and lends a sense of security thanks to the magnetic mount used to secure the clamp.

The Osmo Mobile 8 showcases a specifically interesting feature for iPhone users that are currently running an iOS 18.5 or later. Not only is it able to track faces, bodies, pets and other objects, ActiveTrack 7.0, has integrated and intelligent subject-tracking technology within the native iPhone camera app or any of the 200+ iOS applications including Tiktok and Instagram. It is also compatible with the Apple Dockkit or the new Multi-Functional Module, a tiny camera-equipped add-on that also includes a fill light.
The smart gimbal itself alters sudden movements, a feat that is hard to do via handheld recording. The movements looked smoother — walked shots, pans, and follow movements looked intentional instead of disorganised. This made the task of shooting, especially for non-videographers, seem more manageable.

The build of the Osmo Mobile 8 allows it to fold into a pocket-sized item, so it could fit in your coat pocket but maybe not your trousers. It powers on automatically when the gimbal is removed and cuts down on setup time during filming or shooting.
It is designed for one-handed use, with nearly no instructions required thanks to its revamped controls, quick-launch mechanism, and durable new ergonomic grip. A larger frame and greater height for overhead views are also provided by the additional built-in extension rod adds up to 21.5cm of extra distance between the user and the phone. Plus, it is also easy to charge a phone through the gimbal’s own battery.
The Osmo Mobile 8 seems to be a much-needed component as smartphone cameras become more complex every year. It is the device that transforms phone footage from amateurish to professional with features like motion time-lapse, enhanced panoramic options, and improved low-light stabilisation which help everyday recordings pass for semi-professional work.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 might be just the thing to help with video quality, adding that touch of steadiness we didn’t know we needed.
DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is available now at DJI Flagship Stores, authorised dealers, E-Store, and www.dji.com.
