Show Highlights: Gucci Cosmogonie show

Gucci just staged the show for its Resort 2023 collection at the stunning 13th century Castel del Monte in Puglia. It’s rare that a show manages to remind you why you like fashion – yes, looks can be cool, and sure, the production can be dynamic – but sometimes a show possesses certain energy that makes you stop and remember how powerful this medium is for expression can be. Gucci Resort 2023 was one of these shows.

The first look was an all-black sheer crystal dress underneath a voluminous faux fur and fringes cape, accompanied by a dramatic ear-lip chain earing, which was quickly followed by the first menswear look – a fitted textured knee-cut trench coat overtop a blue shirt with black tie and party-ready to-wear overlength leather bottom. Familiar faces of the brand opened the following act appearing in studded shorts, chic cowboy boots and red screen sunglasses. This act was characterised by uniquely groomed models – young and old who wore everything from asymmetric hem oversized coats and jackets to Alessandro Michele’s interpretation of undertone glamour.

There was a poetic sense within the show – maybe it’s because of the inspiration underlying the collection – taking cues from magical myths, shooting stars and the work of German philosopher Walter Benjamin, or perhaps it’s because of the whole atmosphere in a grandeur set up showcasing that after all the hustles the world has been through, fashion is here to stay.
